Once I knew the sweater may be too large for this year, I used the sunflower granny square pattern and created this most adorable hat. Then I realized that she had pink and purple coats to wear with it. Not such a great color combination! I did not want to buy a brown or tan coat for just a few fall months. I was digging in my storage bins and came across a coat bin of Simon's old coats. I totally saw potential in his 2T green/khaki barn coat. (At least this coat reminds me of a barn coat.) I added sunflower granny square patches on the front pockets, then on the back. Then I just kept adding a crochet trim on all the edges until there was nothing left to add. Of course there is always more to add, but that would border on gaudy!

I am incredibly happy to repurpose Simon's old coat for his sister! How many brothers have handed down to their sisters - and the item is girly? And he happily says "I used to wear that when I was itty-bitty."

Awww that coat is darling! So is the hat! Girl-ification acomplished!
I love the hat and coat. It does not look like an old boy's coat. You are so talented!

How do you find the time to such awesome crafty work? I love the coat and hat - perfect for Norah. Thanks for posting all of the cute pictures and updates of your family. We hope to see you all soon.
I have learned to take a short afternoon break around the 2:00-4:00 hour. Just to stop and sit a bit. I find that from 4:00 until bedtime is filled with cleaning, straightening, cooking, referree-ing, entertaining, playing, bathing, and bedding! I just need a break before that mad dash. I either e-mail, blog, or crochet while watching a cooking show.
Also, any t.v. time is spent with project in hand. Sunday football games and evening viewing is spent twisting yarn to create something delightful!
