A New Pool Bag

This summer I will carry my own pool bag.  My style, with my items. Items that could be carried include a towel, sunscreen, magazine/book, water, snacks, our "walking" key, pool pass, hat, sunglasses, phone, and maybe the camera.  Simon and Norah have their own cinch sacks to carry their own plush towels, water bottles, snacks, goggles, chair clips, and pool toys.  I will not schlep their belongings the 1.25 blocks to and from the pool.  Whining on the way home that it's too heavy will not be effective; they are welcome to leave it on the sidewalk and whoever walks by will have a pleasant treasure to take home.  I am NOT schlepping their things (I'll let you know in August if I stuck to my guns.)

I am hoping to sneak in a wee bit of reading this summer pool side.  By wee bit, I mean a page or two.  Perhaps some projecting a few stitches as well?  They are not yet strong swimmers, so this is mostly doubtful.  Plus, I like to remain cool in the pool.  I am not a sweaty sunbather.

So,  I would like a fun beach/pool bag for me.  A lot of thought has been put into this.  I have the straw bag from our honeymoon, I so love that bag.  I may still use it, despite the fact that it has faded.  The turquoise is not as brilliant and bold as it once was.  But I still am fond of it.  I'll probably start the summer with it as pool time is not that far away.

I fell in love with this pattern which uses cotton yarn.

Then, I found this pattern.  This uses raffia yarn and has the feel of a straw bag.  So cool for a pool bag, don't you think?  I found rayon raffia ribbon on 100 yard spools and not too pricey.  A new fiber to add to my skill set is always exciting.  I was thinking of turquoise, pink, green, orange, or white.  Leaning towards turquoise (I always fall for the bright blues when it comes to pool-wear), pink, and white.  But pink and orange are interesting as well.  Turquoise and green are pleasant together, too.  But what about that third color?  Do I add another? Not yet sure. Any suggestions?
What would you throw over your shoulder if you were to walk 1.25 blocks to the pool carrying only your belongings for the first time since schlepping kiddo's items?

This just may be my project at my Mom's house in June!  Must arrive with a project or two in tow!

(sorry about the underlining, centering, and fuzzy pictures issues. blogspot is not too cooperative tonight.)

I like where you going with this--making them carry their own things.

My only qualification would be something kind of cute and kind of waterproof?--if that's possible.

Be sure to post pictures!

A bag on my shoulder would of course be made of Jessica Jones fabric, probably from her laminates. :)

I like the last bag shown. It looks like it is knitted or crocheted. I like the colors. I would use the tan and white with the blue color you like. It would be great.

I like your idea that they have to carry their own "stuff".

You could line your bag with some kind of water proof material on the inside and maybe the outside bottom {to keep the bottom dry}.
