Today after school, Simon bundled up to his nose with snowpants, coat, and multiple accessories. I slapped on Simon's ice-skates and he hobbled out the door to skate on the sidewalk. Yep, I said sidewalk. You see, snow then rain then falling temperatures then more snow resulted in the slush freezing to a sheet of ice. EVERYWHERE! Since it has been cold, we have had ice-walks for a few days now. If Simon was a more advanced skater, he could have actually skated around the block. Seriously, nobody's walks are clear, despite shoveling efforts! Shoveling seemed to have a worse effect. Norah cried because she wanted her skates. Somehow she forgot that she doesn't have skates. Her options? Stay inside or put on boots to play on the ice. She stopped crying and chose the boots. Simon lasted longer than I thought and did quite well. Norah does not last long outside. Her tiny hands get so cold, even with mittens. Hot cocoa upon returning inside was necessary. We warmed up, ate lunch, and he went back out for round 2, while Norah napped!

At least young peoples can have fun on ice like that. Us oldies don't appreciate it so much. I just got rid of a lovely purple bruise on my hip from a few weeks ago.
With this COLD, I'll bet your ice will hang around awhile! Thank goodness ours got covered up.
not to brag, but here in good ol' Fresno, I went for a run today in shorts and a t-shirt and we all played out in the front yard playing baseball and riding our bikes.
Thank goodness the ice is only on the sidewalks and the roads are clear. We will be heading to WI tomorrow afternon for a Winter Wonderland get away. Friends of our have a cabin/home up there and we are going. We will hopefully sled, ice skate, walk on the frozen lake (assuming the ice is thick enough), build snowmen/people/things, play games, watch movies, drink warm drinks, eat yummy food, be with friends, celebrate a lil' guy's 1st birthday, go on a Scripture Scavenger Hunt, teach a girl to crochet, and be home for the Bears-Packer game on home turf!
Since I've lived through winter all of my life, I cannot imagine a year without 4 seasons. Going to see snow in the mountains when I want to see the white stuff sounds appealing, but having a white Christmas is comforting. There is something about wearing long sleeves and wool and changing out wardrobes that is just a part of my every year. IL winters are about a month later in coming and a month earlier in leaving than MN, and I greatly appreciate that! We are in late January, and Jan.-Feb are the grunt months of winter.
