Last spring, my school district did not close in time for inches of rain and flooding, while every school district around did close. Today, my school district announced the closing of school for tomorrow, for the cold. Reasons and final decisions for closing are always mysterious and unpredictable. We have not yet been back to school since winter break started. Simon was sick the last two days from before break, so he has not been in school since December 19, 2013. Both Simon and Norah cried, when told they had no school tomorrow. Norah misses her Mrs. Rahschulte and Simon cannot remember what Mrs. Meyer looks like. He missed his class party, Fun Friday, and delayed giving his teacher her Christmas gift. I'm glad they love school and have wonderful teachers!
Don't worry, Norah hasn't forgotten how to read - she has actually improved. And Simon continues to balk just the same at writing tasks (it's like pulling teeth) and reading certain types of literature (he prefers factual non-fiction and resists novels) and lengths of books (does not yet appreciate the use of a bookmark for 100+ paged books). Of course he has the ability, and reads novels over 100 pages while at school.
We enjoyed the inches of snow that resemble a MN landscape and we played in it yesterday afternoon. We went tubing at a forest preserve. We climbed uphill to tube down the 800 foot hill, named Mt. Hoy! At $5.00 per tube, a grand ride was had by all. We then sledded down another hill on the grounds.
It felt good, to me, to be outside this morning cleaning off of the cars, while Eric snow-blowed our corner lot. We have a 1-car garage and it was/is still set-up from the last project preventing a car to shelter during inclement weather. The kids L.O.V.E.D. playing in the snow, until mittens and boots were filled with the white stuff to the chilling point.
Since tomorrow will be quite chilly and we have nowhere to go, it is a great day to wash all outside winter gear. I started with the accessories today; since we have multiple sets of hats, scarves and mittens. I try not to complain about snow or cold so my children will not complain about the snow or the cold.
Who knows, they may even ask to go sledding tomorrow. I will deem it too cold for that, I am realistic after all.
Barn Star 14 coming soon!

Welcome to the "COLD" club! The "too-cold-for-school" club! Complain about the cold all you want... it never seems to deter kids from enjoying it. ;)
Love your new header pic!
and In Minnesota schools are closed on Monday also. Leon and Christina both have to go out in the cold. I can stay home in the warm or I can go out in it. I have not decided what to do. We do need a few groceries.
When there was bad weather in Green Bay, Mary Frye and I would go out in the weather - because it was a challenge to go out. We usually went to a gas station close by and had pop and popcorn.
What memories!
I remember way back in the middle 60's we would get so much snow that either on Friday or Monday we would not have school.
I am glad Simon and Norah like to play outside in the snow.
You are wise by not complaining about how cold it is outside.
Take care if you go out.
Love,
Mom -Grandma
